Backpacking through Cuba: Day 8. From Guardalavaca to Holguin.

Day 8. 27/10. Guardalavaca-Holguin

Unfortunately we have to leave paradise on earth and get back to Holguin someday to pick up our stuff and continue our journey tomorrow. After lunch which I collect in a nearby village we break down the tent with a heavy heart and say goodbye to the spanish girls who will stay one more day at Guardalavaca. For our way back to Holguin we get really lucky and find a air-conditioned taxi which takes us to the city for only 19 Pesos – moneda nacional of course!

Once in Holguin I go for a stroll around this lively city, finally connect to the internet, get some money, buy some food and climb the loma de la cruz, a 200m high mountain from which you can see all of Holguin and the beautiful countryside surrounding it. Spectacular view!

Later in the afternoon Maricel and I go to the Astro station to put ourselves in the lista de espera (see day 0) for Camagüey and Ciego de Avila. Night at aunt Nury’s place who once again treats me like a son and puts up a fantastic supper.
